Get out and Accessorize

There is a new British import in Canadian retail and it's Accessorize. Open for about 2 weeks now I decided to take a quick look at their new Queen street store this morning.

I was pretty impressed with the selection as it totally overwhelmed me when I walked in. It's not a big store people, but it's packed to the gills with product. I was also happy with the layout of the store. They organize items by colour combination, making it easy to find items that will work well together. They have a ton of handbags, scarfs, shawls, hats, earrings, and necklaces. Everything in the store is private label and you won't find it anywhere else. The selection changes weekly so accessory nuts will always have something to look at.

Accessorize is huge in Britain and Europe, and are doing well in Canada. I was told their expansion goal is 10 stores a year in Canada. So far the GTA, Vancouver and Ottawa are lucky enough to have stores. After some googling, I found out that the previous owner of Body Shop Canada is the one responsible for bringing Accessorize to Canada. (source) I also discovered that Accessorize tried and failed to break into the American market in 2002. (source). Another good article can be found here.

The capris I am wearing are from Artiza (in stores now ladies). I've been looking all fall for a good pair of carpis to wear my with my new boots from Geox. Most styles I have seen all feature a wide leg, but I find the slim leg look much more flattering. The top and jacket you've seen before.

It's strange how a small item can make you feel like a little kid again. That's how I feel about the new Converse Chuck Taylors I bought recently.

Chucks look soooo good on. I love them with a pair of jeans and a Threadless t. I purchased these from Get Outside - map it!!!. I tried a different colour combination, but I decided to go for the classic black and white version. They are a throwback to the first Chucks I ever had in Grade 7. Wearing these chucks for the first time reminded me of my family trip to DisneyWorld in Orlando where my brother and I were so happy with our new Chucks. We had the exact same pair. I also had a black and white hat to match my shoes. Sigh, memories....

Montreal Madness part 1b

Everything but the shoes in this picture was purchased in Montreal. I initially saw the jacket in the window of Bedo and I had to have it. I really love military clothing (real or inspired) and that attracted me to the jacket. There was no desire to own anything velvet in me initially, something just clicked. My buddy Jason helped me put together the rest of the outfit and I thank him for it. The skirt is a Boxfresh product which was from a store I really liked called Aritmetiks. The stores are very nice, but the website really sucks. The software tester in me didn't want to link to it, but I gave in. The tank top (which you can't see in the above picture) was from Club Monaco.

Desdemona handbag by etnies

I was in Montreal from October 14 - 16. It was a great trip. I stayed at the Hotel St. Paul in old Montreal and it was amazing. I thought the service was excellent and I loved being caterer to. Sigh...memories. Anyways, I wouldn't be a fashionista if I didn't go shopping. I power-shopped with my lovely friend and stylist for the trip, Jason. He was great and helped me find some lovely items that I will post about in the coming days. This bag was something that I completely walked by, but Jason's sharp eyes noticed it. The picture doesn't show you the lovely lilac lining it has. It also doesn't really show how big the bag is. It has 3 main compartments and a few little ones all over the place. I also didn't get the little trinkets that are hanging off the key ring. I'm glad someone got use of it, I would have thrown those tacky things out. They aren't a Prada Robot trick keychain, that's for sure. I got this bag from Oceans, 3670 St-Laurent - map it!!!

Kenneth Cole Teal Shoes

These cute teal heels are my first pair of Kenneth Cole shoes. I almost passed these up, but had to head back to Winners before someone else grabbed them. I have always been interested in a pair of coloured heels and these just called out to me.

The Oakley store I'm very curious about. I love their sunglasses (even if they are way to expensive) and their clothes look promising. Once I actually check out the inside of the store I'll post a review. LOL
StoneRidge (an Aldo company) is a good shoe store, much better than Pegabo. So I look forward to getting my Diesel finds from another store on the Queen street stretch.

This bag is beautiful. I love everything about this bag. I love the colour scheme and pattern; the unusual shape and the hardware used for the clasp. This luxurious bag is made of black leather and velvet.

This beauty is made of chocolate suede and has golden hardware. My favourite part of this bag is the engraved coins placed all over the body of the bag. It's also big and slouchy, I love that.

This was my first invite to a store opening and it was a fun time. The store space is fabulous and for you local film buffs it was a location in this movie.

While searching for a picture of my wonderful Luna's, I stumbled across a Canadian shoe retailer out of Alberta. Gravity Pope is amazing! Their Diesel collection alone makes me drool. I have to admit Miss Sixty makes some great looking shoes. I had no idea, I hate their clothes but love their shoes, let's check some out.

Diesel find of the year!!!

I love Diesel, especially their shoes. Today I was walking to a friend's birthday party after a great game of squash. I had some time to kill so I walked through the Eaton Centre and then headed north on Yonge. The Aldo Shoe Outlet (map it!) was having a sandal sale so I decided to check it out. 20 bucks for sandals, you usually can't go wrong. Well today I had no idea how lucky I would be.

These beautiful Diesel mules were on sale for 20 DOLLARS and they were my size (in the purple, not green). I couldn't believe my luck. I asked 2 sales associated just to be sure.
Retail for these shoes is $159.99 (yes, that's the real price).
And yes, I got them for 20 DOLLARS, 20 FREAKIN' DOLLARS. SCORE!!!!!

I have 5 pairs of Diesel shoes currently (oops, 6 now) but these are my first Diesel heels, and I love them. I'm contemplating buying these beauties too

Diesel shoes are very, very comfortable; you can walk forever in them. I also find that they are well made, and worth the money you pay for them. What is it they say, not to skimp out on shoes and hair. Well, I don't have much hair, but I don't mind paying for great, well made shoes. I had one pair of Diesel shoes that I literally wore out, and the sole started to fall apart. It only took a year, but I was wearing these shoes like everyday. It's a shame too because they were so damn cute and matched a dress I had perfectly.

Waist deep in summer sales

It's that time of year, all the retailers are thinking about fall.
Most already have the fall merch on display.

That means summer stock has to go! Thank god this summer has been blazing hot. Summer sale purchases can actually be worn for few months longer.

I work in the software industry as a Software Tester. Yes, I'm a geek, I don't look like one, but underneath I am. Well, I was at work on Saturday because we had a software release. It was a very long day and I decided to take a quick peak at one of my favourite stores on Queen Street, Change Room (425 Queen Street West - map it!).

They are having a massive summer sale on now, with prices from 50% - 70% off. I had went to the shop earlier in the week and spotted a Triple 5 Soul jacket I liked. It's a white 3/4 length spring jacket. I've been scouring the net to find a picture of it, but it was just not happening. It looks like the 3/4 length down filled winter jacket with the hood, but there is no fur. It's a like a shell jacket but much more stylist and not as waterproof! So, I returned Saturday to buy it.....

I also ending up buying a Kitchen Orange denim jacket like so

In addition I picked up another OK47 halter top (in sage) and a pair of linen cargos from Triple 5 Soul.
ALL at 50% off.

Queen Street can be dangerous to work close to. Most of the stores along the strip are having good sales on right now, so if you can get your butt down here, I would suggest it.

A good guide to shopping in Toronto is published by Toronto Life magazine. I bought the 2005 Shopping Guide this year for the first time. You can find all kinds of shops to suit everyones style. For fashionistas, this guide is a must. It has a lot of entries and the catagories cover: fashion, beauty, home, garden, books and music. The guide should be available at your local magazine seller or online. There is an online version of the shopping guide, I am unsure of how much it differs from the print version. It is included in the City Guides section of the site. There is tons of great information that includes food, restaurants, fitness, kids, entertainment and getaways.

I also just noticed a great little monthly shopping column on the site called The City's best loot.

I was visiting Trent today and saw that he was an LV bag. So I decided to try this test out. Apparently I am Dooney&Burke bag. You can take the test here if you really want to.

I was kind of disappointed with this test, mostly because I had never heard of Dooney & Bourke. So I looked it up on the internet only to find out that the spelling that these people from zenhex.com use is wrong. It's Dooney & Bourke, thank god for google. Anyways I decided to check out their website to find out if I truly am a Dooney & Bourke girl.

nCode N145 Squash Racquet

I love squash and I love this racquet. It's once of the new 2005-2006 racquet line that uses the new nCode technology. Wilson claims that this racquet delivers 2 times the strength, 2 times more stability and 22% more power. I tried a demo of this racquet at the gym today, and I have to admit some shots that I normally don't make the front wall were hitting today. And my serve, oh man, it's never been so easy. So you can see it was an easy sell for me.

I play squash in a league at my great gym, The Wellington Club. They have leagues for everyone, including beginners. The Squash pro, Jamie Martel is a great resource and gives excellent lessons. Squash is a fabulous workout and a great sport to get involved in.

Keen Sandals - Newport H2

So I didn't get the Boulder version of the sandal, but I am pretty pleased with this purchase. The colour is great and they are very, very comfortable. I can't wait to break them in on the trail. I did break them in on the street though. This morning I walked to work in them and they are so comfortable. I love how weird and funky they look too.

Edit (July 20, 2005): These shoes are incredible. You can machine wash them, how great is that.

Deluxe iBall Ball Chair w/ Speakers

This would be perfect for chilling out at home. With the built in speakers you can be rocking your pod in this cool ass chair.

So I was shopping (suprise, suprise) on Sunday (July 10, 2005) at Tap Phong. If you don't know Tap Phong, where have you been, they have great housewares stuff for cheap. I bought 2 lawn chairs and a Parasole.

Anyways, I walk out of Tap Phong and there is a massive cloud of smoke in the sky. Apparently a big fire took out a bunch of townhomes (Reg req'd). It was pretty crazy seeing it on the street.

Here are a few things I've purchased recently.

Fidelity Demin

I got these jeans while on vacation in Vancouver in March. They are the perfect length for me (32 inseam). I wear more flat shoes, so getting a 34 inseam really sucks. I don't want to cut them because they are perfect for heels; but I have to roll them up to wear them with flats. This drives me insane. So it's nice to have jeans that fit perfectly. Apparently these jeans make your butt look really good; I'm not a very good judge of that though. The designer Jason Trotzuk is a Canadian and the creator of Dish Jeans. Fidelity is a little higher end than Dish jeans but only by about 50 - 70 bucks.

OK47 Muscleshirt and Halter Top

As a gemini, yellow is my colour. I love lots of colour, it's helps that I have the complexion that allows me to wear all the colours of the rainbow. These 2 lovely items are from another great Canadian company OK47. They make funky printed clothing. I have this great lawnmower shirt by them from last season. The clothing is made from quality cotton and will last a long time. The prints are very good and do not wear off in the wash. I always hang my OK47 shirts to dry, so I'm not too sure about the dryer.

Dish Jeans demin skirt

Finally I found a demin skirt. I've had trouble finding ones that fit comfortably, but of course great Canadian demin company Dish Jeans have helped me out. I have also purchased some jeans from Dish. I can't find any pictures of them so I haven't blogged about it. They fit great though. Dish jeans are high quality and great fit without a massive price tag. Jeans are under a hundred bucks.

God, look at that car, isn't it freakin' beautiful

Custom Jeans from earnest sewn

Can you image jeans made to fit you perfectly. That's what the former Paper Denim (they have some hot jeans too actually) designer did. They have a shop in the trendy NYC meatpacking district. In comparison to other high end jeans, they are about middle of the road price. However, the bonus with these guys is that they are tailor made to your body. The only unfortunate thing is that the site is in Flash. Flash sites, most of the time they are a major pain in the ass, this site is no exception. Boo urns to earnest sewn for their poor website execution choice. Flash is good for animation and games.

Friday I celebrated birthdays with another Gemini friend of mine. I was born on June 6th so the party was a little late, but it was a lot of fun. Here are a few choice shots; you can view the rest here

I went to the Ribs festival at the Distillery District. It was a lot smaller than I expected but the ribs were good good. I got some ribs from Camp 31, a Canadian outfit from Paris, Ontario. The ribs were nice and tasty. A full rack is much to big too eat oneself, so I split one with my friend Paul. I didn't take any pictures of the Distillery District, there were just too many humans walking around.

Sunday

And now Sunday, the final day of Pride in Toronto. Pride to me is an excuse to party. I was there as an ally to the community and to hang out with some friends. I didn't watch the parade. I don't care much for them, and seeing the TD Bank float was not on my list of things to do. On that list were
1. Drinking
2. Eating
I accomplished both missions. We set up shop at O'Grady's
at about 1:30pm and left around 7:30pm. It was a long hot day. We had a sweet spot on the patio. Our first waitress shared a name with me. I rarely meet any Anitas. Anita mentioned the same thing. It was quite strange. Anyways you can view my photos here, but here are a few shots.

Prada Sunglasses

That's me with some loaned Prada Shades. This was taken at my birthday celebration on Friday. You can see the rest of the shots here. These sunglasses are very nice. A friend let me try them on and then complimented me on how they looked. I have to agree; unfortunately these sunglasses cost about 300 bucks. Not a very good investment for someone who loses sunglasses all the time, hence why I buy cheap.

A wicked fuchsia strapless dress from Girl Friday.

I noticed this little number in the window of Girl Friday on College street. I ended up buying it a few weekends later. I hadn't worn it till last night, when I went to the Four Seasons for drinks.

This is in the Four Seasons bathroom, it was actually very nice.

Another lamb burger from the Seldom Seen/Seldom Heard farm.

So I finally went to the Dufferin Grove Farmer's market. It was small, but had a lot of good fresh organic veggies and lots of organic meat. I got some of the first ontario strawberries too, can't wait to eat those. Here are a couple pictures from the market.

I was about to leave when I stumbled across the lamb burger stand. I ordered one up because I was curious. It was fucking fantastic.

So, I want a half of lamb from Seldom Seen/Seldom Heard farm. And while I'm at it, I want a rack of lamb prepared for me (I don't want to do anything except eat) using this recipe and with mint jelly on the side. I'll just have to make room for the other parts in my freezer.

My Shure headphones.
I'm enjoying the sound that these earphones have. Much, much better than my Sony's. I am quite impressed with the thickness of wire they use. My Sony's used a much thinner wire which apparently couldn't stand up to task of being my headphones and broke. So, I splurged on these Shure headphones. And I’m quite happy about it. It’s taking some time getting used to the thicker wires. The configuration of the ear pieces is different from my Sony’s also. Overall, I'm happy.

An Endless pool

I'd probably need a house first to own an endless pool, but they are very sweet. I don't like public pools that much and I've never been very good at making those turns at the walls. This would be perfect for fitting more exercise into the day.
